Growing up I was the smoothie queen in my house. I would come home from school ready for a snack. One of the best ways I ate my daily fruits was in my smoothies. Because I loved making them it made me want to try different kinds of mixed berries, pineapple, papaya, kiwi... you get it, a bunch of different kinds of fruit. The fun of making a simple recipe enticed me as a young girl to adventure into the world of food curiosity.
That's exactly what I do with the kids I teach.
When we are hands on from a young age learning how use different ingredients and putting them in a dish to taste delicious we learn how to eat many different ingredients. A smoothie can use many different fruits and vegetables, which kids may not be the most fond of their fruits and vegetables. When they help make a smoothie for snack they are more likely to enjoy this healthy delight. Same goes for you adults who are a bit shy of fruits and vegetables. We should enjoy our food and when we blend it together into a smoothie we can make it much more enjoyable. We can train our tastebuds to like something if we are on the fence about the food item. Smoothies are a great way to experiment with ingredients and flavors.
