Fad or Healthy?

Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) is a Brazilian fruit, but also found in Peru, and some Central and South American countries.  It has  gained a lot of popularity, especially in the health community. So is it really as healthy as everyone seems to say?

Açaí is a berry and tastes like a combination between a raspberry, blackberry, and slightly tart. Since it is a berry it is rich in antioxidants. Açaí takes the gold medal for the most powerful antioxidant. It is considered a beauty food. Why? It's high quantity of antioxidants and vitamins, especially Vitamin C which works as a collagen producer enhances the quality and elasticity of our skin. 

You may be asking, but to eat a entire bowl of fruit, isn't that a lot of sugar? Well acai is a low sugar fruit. The vitamins and minerals this fruit contains is really where the health benefits lies. Açaí is rich in iron, Vitamin A, fiber, and   Vitamins and minerals are the backbone to nutrition. A constant variety of quality vitamins and minerals allow for your bodily functions to work most effectively and efficiently. 

Yes, acai is a healthy food/ingredient, it is a real food nevertheless. With that being said, it is best consumed as an acai bowl, or smoothie which means that as a juice it isn't as healthy. As a juice you are consuming many of the vitamins and minerals, but if you are loosing weight drinking it as a juice may not be the best option. Eating fruit in their whole form, in this case as an acai bowl or smoothie you will consume all of the nutritional benefits of the fruit, and this fruit you want ALL the benefits!
