Bottled salad dressings are so simple to purchase and you have so many options. But the majority of them are terrible for you. The reason being is due to all the ingredients used to make them and preserve them for a long shelf life. Preservatives, fillers, and additives are a major reason why packaged commercial foods are a major cause of so many American's decline in health.
Salad without dressing is boring, tasteless and you actually miss out on nutrients. Salads should have a dressing, it is typically the fat for the meal. Which is very important. Many people think fat is bad for you, and it's not your fault that has been advertised so much, and there are so many "fat free" or "low fat" packaged items out there it seems like the right way to go. It's the right kinds of fats and about a balance. Making your own salad dressings is very simple and you can add a variety of different ingredients all good for you!
Yields 6 servings
2 heaping tablespoons of Tahini
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 lemon juiced
1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar
Salt + pepper
There are 2 ways to make the dressing.
1. Add everything in a mason jar and shake well until everything has mixed.
2. Add the ingredients in a bowl and whisk very well to mix everything together.
Store the left over in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 weeks.
Remember to shake/mix the dressing before using it because the olive oil and vinegar will separate.
